It’s all too easy to get caught up in the chase of a sale. But even though the moment of an over-priced apartment is not the same as the moment you purchase it, it can still feel all too close. I’ve been on the other side of the equation where I purchased my apartment and was immediately put in a situation where I didn’t even know what to say or do.
I bought my apartment in November 2016 for about $300k. I sold it in June 2017 for $260k. When I sold it I was on a budget and knew I needed to cut down my spending. So I did what any savvy consumer would do: I cut out all non-essentials, like a washer, dryer, and electric bill. So that left $100 in the budget and I could give the apartment a final review.
I knew I wanted a lot of space, so I planned on a lot of renovations. I thought I’d move some things into the basement, but then I realized I’d need a space for my desk and computer.
So I went with the basement.
The apartment is a pretty good size. All the walls and floors in the main part of the apartment are exposed brick. I love the natural light and the way the bricks look. I have a feeling there will be a lot of natural light coming in from the windows, which would make the apartment airier than I’m used to. This is a good place because it is near a big park and there is plenty of room to park a car there.
As it turns out, I have a lot of space in the basement, even though I don’t use it as much as I would like. The apartment is at the end of the hall from the master bedroom. The rooms are about the size of a walk-in closet. The kitchen is pretty small, but it is big enough and has a decent amount of counter space. The living room is about the size of my bedroom, which is a nice size too.
The kitchen will be fully stocked with basic groceries, so I have the kitchen already set up. The living room will have a desk with a TV and a few chairs, and a couch to enjoy. The master bedroom will have a bed, nightstand, a desk, an end table, and a full closet. The master bathroom is about the size of a closet. The master bedroom has a full closet, a bed, a nightstand, and a desk.
So with all eight rooms set up, the only thing missing from the apartment is a bathroom. That’s not really a problem, because the bathroom will be fully stocked with basics like soap, shampoo, and other body products. I’ll have the toilet, sink, and shower right out of the box. It is still somewhat strange to have a bathroom that’s also a bedroom.
That’s a good thing, since you’d think someone would have to put in a full bathroom before the apartment got even more comfortable. But even that is a stretch. This isn’t an apartment. This is a “museum” or “art gallery.” It also doesn’t really seem to make sense for the apartment to have a full bath in it.
Yes, there is a bathroom. I’m not sure how you put a full bath in an apartment. I know they don’t actually go that far in the apartment, but there are still some small issues with this apartment. The sink looks like it should have a drain, but the shower isnt big enough for a toilet, and the sink has little bits of plastic that appear to be floating on the water.
