The best way to get to know a person is to first get to know their language. Knowing your own language is one of the best ways to find out what your interlocutor says and thinks.
So when I’m driving, I try to figure out where do I live as quickly as possible. If I’m driving through a town where I don’t know the exact address, I might give up and just go around and hope I remember. If I’m driving through a town where I do know the exact address, I might want to take a look at the map. If I’m driving through a town with no map, I might want to check out the town’s website or ask around.
You could just ask.
You could also just say where you live. It’s easier. But it’s a bit of an awkward answer.
What we do is write down where we live. We use a number that we picked up at a town’s website. For example, I have a number for my house. When I call that number I can tell if I know the exact address. Then I can ask the number one person I know for help. That person will write down the address and give me the number. Then I can call up the number and get directions to the exact address.
When you see the number you have to ask the person who asked you the number.
It’s an open, transparent, and honest way to find your home. It’s not really open because we don’t know where your home is. It’s not really transparent because we don’t know who will be in contact with you. It’s not really honest because it is dependent on who you know and who you ask. The only way we could really know whether or not the number I’m given is the right number is if someone is there to write down the address.
You won’t be asked the number or read your street name. Instead, you’ll just know where you live and can write it down.
That’s the beauty of this system. You don’t have to know the address. You just know where you live and you can write it down.
