The reality of living room renting is that you are not in charge of your room. This is a bad thing. If you are not in the room, you are not in the house.
I am not advocating that everyone should live in a house. But I am saying that if you are in a house because you are not going to be at home when you need a place to stay for an extended period of time, you should not be living in it.
