Engineers wear clothes that make them comfortable. The difference is that when you’re in an engineering lab at the office, you’re wearing the clothes that are part of your job description. When you’re on a construction site, you wear the clothes that are part of your job description, the clothes that you’re wearing when you work in a construction lab.
The question is not, “What do engineers wear to work?” but “What do they wear when theyre on a construction site?” The difference between work clothes and office clothes is a big one. In an office, youre comfortable. Youre walking around, surrounded by people, talking to them, getting stuff done, or whatever. In a construction lab, youre cold. Youre uncomfortable.
The first thing you should be doing when you enter a construction lab is to put on your work clothes. The second thing you should do is to put on your work shoes. And the third thing you should be doing is to put on your work socks. A construction lab is NOT a place where you wear your work clothes. You should wear your work clothes. You should wear your work shoes. You should wear your work socks.
The three things we wear that engineers wear are the same thing as the three things we wear that we are, so the fact that they are all the same is an oddity, and it is. But I guess youre not supposed to wear a belt around your waist just because it is always cold in the lab.

This list is a bit longer, but it’s also a good indication of how some work dress is not only acceptable to wear at work, but also acceptable to wear while you’re on the computer. Many of our favorite tech blogs and websites, including TechRepublic and Slashdot, are pretty much the same.
I don’t wear shoes because I don’t like the way their soles stick to my feet. I also like wearing shorts so they don’t get in my socks. But I also don’t like wearing shorts. I’m a grownup. You don’t treat grownups like this.
A lot of engineers are really big on clothing. Many say that dress codes aren’t a good way to make the workplace better. I disagree. As a matter of fact, if anyone needs to show off their dress, it’s an engineer. I have a hard time seeing people who are not engineers wearing anything other than a t-shirt while working. After all, they’re the ones who have to wear the suit.
I suppose that theyre all really big on clothing. I think the only difference is that they dont have to wear it. But it doesnt mean theyre not a little out there. But theyre not out there to make a fashion statement. Theyre out there to help us solve problems.
